My 101 in 1001

I was recently encouraged to start a list of the goals I hope to accomplish in the next 1001 days.  I included hopes for my life, business, and travel plans.  I don’t plan on living by my list, but more just living my life with these goals in mind.  As I accomplish these things, I’ll update this page and hopefully write a post about each one!

  1. Read 5 books I already own
  2. Go snowshoeing
  3. Scan in all our wedding photos and design an album
  4. Plan a menu for every month for 6 months
  5. Play the piano once per week for 1 month (completed 2/7/11)
  6. Complete a Spanish course
  7. Buy a language course for another language besides Spanish and start it
  8. Change our food buying/eating habits to reflect our values (in progress)
  9. Update my wardrobe
  10. Knit a sweater
  11. Print and hang my favorite photos in our house ( in progress)
  12. Take a dance class
  13. Learn how to make sticky rice
  14. Read a classic literature book I’ve never read before
  15. Eat at an Ethiopian restaurant (Completed 2/4/10, sorry no post!)
  16. Buy/rent a cello and take lessons
  17. Get a bike and ride the Cherry Creek trail
  18. Find a better way to store shoes in my closet than in a pile on the floor (completed!)
  19. Grow an herb garden
  20. Have professional portraits done of me and Josh
  21. Go grocery shopping with reusable bags for 2 months
  22. Attend an art exhibit
  23. Go to a romantic jazz club
  24. Learn to make soap
  25. Learn to make beeswax candles
  26. Finish my Europe scrapbook
  27. Bake bread in the bread machine
  28. Shop at the farmer’s market
  29. Have a spa day
  30. Build an emergency kit for my car’s trunk
  31. Get a new lunchbox.
  32. Reach my goal weight.
  33. Stay up to speed on laundry for 1 month
  34. See a drive in movie
  35. Outsource the cleaning of my house
  36. Try Pinkberry
  37. Encourage someone else to make a 101 in 1001 list
  38. Use the elliptical 3 times a week for 3 months
  39. Go through my closet and the rest of the house and give the non-essentials to charity (completed! 7/1/2011, but always in progress)
  40. Do an anonymous random act of kindness once a month for 3 months
  41. Spring cleaning!
  42. Make one small home improvement every month for 6 months
  43. Research and implement 10 ways to be more environmentally friendly
  44. Recycle all our old plastic bags
  45. Walk the dogs regularly for 1 month
  46. Renew my passport (completed!)
  47. Plan and go on our international adventure (Completed 9/2010)
  48. Go on a real vacation with Josh (Completed 9/2010)
  49. Visit Yellowstone National Park
  50. Visit Glacier National Park
  51. Visit Grand Tetons National Park
  52. Visit the Grand Canyon
  53. Visit Idaho
  54. Travel to NYC and see a Broadway musical
  55. Ride a horse on the beach in Ireland
  56. Visit Sarah and Chris in Fort Wayne or vice versa
  57. Visit Kris and Michaela in Charleston
  58. Shoot a wedding in another country
  59. Make a business plan
  60. Read 3 books to benefit my business
  61. Start building a travel/documentary portfolio (In progress)
  62. Attend a workshop by a photographer I admire
  63. Enter a print competition
  64. Do a photo shoot or promotion for a charity
  65. Go back to my hometown and capture its character in photographs – a photo essay
  66. Learn to use a tilt-shift lens
  67. Go to WPPI
  68. Find a better space for client meetings and ordering sessions
  69. Learn off-camera lighting for receptions (In progress)
  70. Makeover the office and optimize it for my business
  71. Become better at documenting my everyday life in photographs. (in progress!)
  72. Create a visual system for keeping track of clients and orders
  73. Second Shoot for three photographers I admire
  74. Take a road trip and stop along the way for photo opportunities
  75. Start using my iPhone as my planner (completed!)
  76. Spell my name with photos
  77. Take a marketing class or workshop
  78. Work on a collaborative portfolio-building photo shoot with a florist, wedding planner, makeup artist, etc.
  79. Have images published on a blog (Complete)
  80. Have images published in a magazine
  81. Have one of our travel photos made into an extra large canvas to hang in the living room
  82. Find 5 new favorite portrait locations
  83. Donate photography to a silent auction
  84. Travel to a foreign country to photograph for a charity
  85. Find a photography mentor
  86. Have portraits taken of me for my website  (Complete!  1/30/10  See here)
  87. Design and order sample albums
  88. Find antique cameras to decorate my future studio with.
  89. Conceptualize and complete a personal photo project
  90. Photograph a beach wedding.
  91. Meet and develop relationships with wedding vendors.
  92. Get new marketing materials and office materials printed for my business.
  93. Go through a rebranding process.
  94. Meet regularly with a photog friend to work on learning and goals, etc. (In Progress)
  95. Go on a drive just to scout photo locations both for business and personal use.
  96. Find inspiration from another medium or industry.
  97. Figure out what SEO is all about.
  98. Create a still life fine art piece.
  99. Once a month for three months go on a photo shoot just for me. (2/3)
  100. Do a bridal show.
  101. Order customized gifts to send as thank you’s for clients.
