Ok, so I’m not usually a fan of props just for the sake of props, but sometimes they can serve as a storytelling element. Our goal with this session was to illustrate a whimsical mountain elopement and to submit for publication to a fabulous wedding inspiration blog. For those of you not in the wedding industry, styling and props have basically become a requirement for getting your photos published. So there you go. If you are a bride who loves design elements and props – go for it! Just make sure that they are meaningful to you as a couple and help to tell your story. As a photographer, my goal will be to capture the essence of your love and connection…the props should be there to enhance, not detract from that story. *Ok, off my soapbox* Here are a few more (ok a lot!) of my favorites from this session. Sooo….Wedding Inspiration Wednesday has been a little quiet for a while. Time to get back in the swing of things! I found this cute idea over on Style Me Pretty and couldn’t resist sharing it. I’ve seen more than my fair share of boring receptions in my days as a wedding photographer. I have the perfect cure!

“Kissing Tree.” As an alternative to the clinking of glasses, the guests approach the tree and pluck off a matchbook. The MC then reads aloud what they have to do to have the bride and groom kiss. Things like answering bride and groom trivia, singing a love song with your table and preforming a charade of a “wedding” movie…

From the bride…

“The kissing tree was an alternative to the clinking of glasses. The guest would approach the tree and pluck off a matchbook (if you look closely it has an embossed smooch on it), then hand it to the MC. He would then read aloud what they had to do to have us kiss. The tasks included…answering Bride and Groom trivia, singing a love song with your table, performing a charade of a “wedding” movie, or demonstrating how we were to kiss by kissing someone else!”

To Make the Kissing Tree…

Insert tall, sturdy branches into the base of a vase (using the green styrofoam). Hang matchbooks that have been adorned with fun tasks, to each of the branches. Make sure to only have about 25 matchbooks on the tree so that the game doesn’t get boring or redundant. And, make sure to prep your dj ahead of time so that he understands his job!

I’m so behind on blogging, but I think I’ll just make a fresh start by having you meet little Miss Leah – 15 days old – and her family! I usually recommend scheduling newborn sessions while baby is still under 12 days old, but Leah was as calm and sleepy as can be. This family is so precious…I can’t wait to see them grow up!
